Escaping the Monotony: Digital Breakouts in Canvas as a Vehicle for Student Engagement

Digital breakouts allow students to problem-solve, think critically, and review important content in an exciting, game-based environment. In this session, participants will learn how to transform their classrooms into mystery escape rooms through digital breakout activities. Participants will learn how to leverage Canvasʼs modules and quiz features to design engaging breakout activities and hear ideas for implementing them effectively.

Adobe Express has recently undergone a complete redesign and now features character animation, artificial intelligence tools, collaborative editing, and even more new features. It still also features tried and true tools for creating narrated videos, beautiful web pages, and graphics. Even those classic tools have been juiced up with artificial intelligence, more animation options, and other great features. Adobe has fully embraced Artificial Intelligence and embedded it into many of its most popular creative tools. Come learn how the A.I. tools in Adobe Firefly, Photoshop, and Express can empower you and your students to be even more creative. Even though these A.I tools can be engaging, the benefits go way beyond entertainment. Come learn how Adobe A.I. can open up new possibilities for teachers to teach and students to learn creatively and effectively. All three of these Adobe tools have web-based versions, so they work well on Chromebooks as well as other computers. Public school teachers of grades K-12 and public school students in grades 7-12 have been provided access to each of these powerful tools. Slides for this session are found here.

I "4C" your Future: Transformational Student Learning with Google Tools

Corny session title.... I get it. :) That said, in collaboration with the GEG Utah folks, we'll dive into checking out Google tools and applications to better personalize student learning, increase engagement, and differentiate instruction for individual students. The tools demonstrated will focus on the 4 C's: Collaboration, Creativity, Communication, and Critical Thinking.
A variety of educational technology tools and applications will be shared in this session, including, but not limited to: Updates to Chrome and Google Workspace features, NotebookLM, Gemini, and Sites. As these tools are demonstrated, we'll discuss ways you can create inquiry-based projects, facilitate greater collaboration, and how to intentionally design creative student learning experiences.

In this session, participants will learn how to create item banks, offer flexible due dates, and provide quiz accommodations in Canvas. Participants will also learn advanced module features, including requirements and prerequisites, and how to create Mastery Paths in Canvas to facilitate self-paced, individualized, and scaffolded instruction.
